Our 3 Steps to soundness have proven to us time and time again, that by trimming to horse
- to attain correct skeletal alignment through correct heel height ( achieved over a period of time)
- restoring hoof function and getting hoof mechanism to work by removing "overgrown" bar ( called dead sole by farrier) and
- taking control of the white line by rasping excess hoof wall away and preventing separation issues
we can have the horse walking on the hoof properly using his heels and sole, as other mammals do ( as do we).
Will Miller & Rosa Stackhouse-Miller travel extensively between New Zealand, Australia, Dubai and Europe teaching you how to:
Trim your horses' hooves safely
- Restore Hoof Function & Mechanism which is responsible for the circulation of blood through the hoof
- RE-ALIGN THE BONES so that the horse can also be responsible for his feet through "barefoot" trimming;
- How to trim your own horses to suit your riding conditions.
- Understand Thrush, Seedy Toe, Navicular Disease; Club foot , White line separation, Laminitis, abscesses and Founder
- Create a "TIGHT WHITE LINE" by taking control of the hoof capsule
LEARN TO TRIM YOUR OWN HORSES FEET and/or understand what your hoof trimmer will be doing for your horse.
Clinic Information
First Day
9am-1pm Theory and then a dissection of cadaver hooves ( when able) , to understand the anatomy and physiology of the hoof AND Hoof mechanism by showing how the blood flows through the hoof
1-2pm Lunch . Discusion of the tools of the trim
2pm - One horse in then trimmed as required working on the theory that we will ask the horse how much to trim off. LESS IS MORE. We want to restore the tendons and ligaments to their natural position gradually so that the horse can keep working and you can keep riding. Movement is the key to fast transitions from shod to barefoot.
3pm Trimming horses. I usually trim one half of a hoof so that the student can copy my work, understanding what I am doing and then they can do the other 3 feet under constant supervision as required.
Second day
More Trimming for basic students, OVERVIEW OF PROCEDURES; KNIFE SHARPENING, CARE WITH HORSES, HANDLING HOOVES ETC.
Knives, rasps and books can be purchased on the day
